If you're taking pains to dress as if it were 1965, I suspect you're a poseur, not a purist.
I don't want to insult other bloggers on their blogs, but when the preppy bloggers purport to make rules about what is OK and what isn't, they don't come across to me as people who have much experience with upper-class life or with Ivy-league graduates.
